Riding the Wave

You may long for calm and serenity and steadiness.

But have you ever really unraveled the nuances of these emotions?

What does it mean to be resilient? To be calm? To be chill?

How is riding the wave of life possible?

And what is equanimity? Why does it matter?

Equanimity is different than calm and peaceful and temperate.

It's the skill of being in those states.

It's the foundational practice for these desired qualities.

Equanimity is our relationship with life. It's our groundedness.

My teacher calls this- "soft front. strong back." Roshi Joan Halifax.

It's immeasurable and contains all of the qualities of tranquility.

But it's not tranquility. It's emotional stability.

And it's a practice. We don't decide to be equanimous. We practice it.
