Meet Stephanee

Stephanee offers holistic practices that bridge the gap between traditional therapy and yoga therapy, from healthcare to community care.

Stephanee encourages her students and clients to be inspired by their potential for resiliency. Her history of nursing and current work as a hospice volunteer inform her Kripalu-based teaching style, creating a serene and meditative experience. She helps students to develop integral qualities such as self-regulation and mindfulness, fluid from mat to life.

Stephanee Howell is a 500 hr Therapeutic Yoga Teacher and a C-IAYT (Internationally Certified Yoga Therapist) through Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy. She is certified by the National Yoga Alliance with additional certified training in Y4C’s (Yoga for Cancer) specialized teaching methodology, certification in the Mindful Yoga for Cancer Integrative/Research-Based Model at Duke Univ. and certification in Restorative and Therapeutic Yoga through Yogaworks with Jillian Pransky.

She is an advanced teacher and mentor for the Y4C (Yoga for Cancer) teacher training program. She is a Mindfulness Meditation teacher certified through Sounds True with Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach.

She has developed Wellness Beyond Cancer, a progressive yoga, fitness, and wellness program for cancer survivors for the Sentara Brock Cancer Center with a specialized wellness component, I Thrive.

Stephanee is a retired RN (ICU), a Hospice Volunteer, a Lay Pastoral Counselor, a Level 3 Healing Touch Practitioner, and holds a Master’s Degree in Transpersonal Psychology.

Stephanee offers therapeutic, trauma-informed, and restorative yoga classes and workshops, mindfulness and meditation programs, and specialized yoga for cancer classes in the community. She has a private practice offering one-on-one and group yoga therapy and lifestyle therapy programs- with particular focus on cancer survivors and those with anxiety, depression, trauma, and PTSD.


Stephanee’s work as a Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapist  allowed me to assess information about my personal issue that was hiding in my body. Her gentle, nurturing, skilled approach made it safe for me to explore those hidden areas and empowered me to step into the truth of the situation, gain insight and then let it go. I am grateful for her work, it is life enhancing.
